Who we are:
We are a father (Bill) and son (Peter) team, and have been selling WBC and National hives now for nearly 9 years, operating from our home in the Scottish borders.
I started bee keeping at the age of 17, having inheriting three WBC hives from my uncle. These days, work keeps me hopping between Asia and home. But fortunately I have an understanding father to help when I am out station.
The wood:
Our beehives are made of Canadian cedar wood, from selected Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) sources. All our wood is certified, usually by PEFC, the world's largest forest certification system.
Cedar wood is traditionally used for beehives because it needs very little maintenance, and can be left unpainted for a more ‘natural’ look if desired. Alternatively, of course, beehives can be painted any colour under the sun, though we would recommend using an eco-friendly paint.
All our beehives are made to BBKA standard specifications. They are sold unassembled, (flat) with very clear and detailed assembly instructions and the necessary screws etc being provided. We anticipate that it will take a reasonably competent person about 4 to 6 to hours to assemble a WBC hive, and 1 to 2 hours to assemble a National hive.
Quality:
We pride ourselves on both the quality of our products and the quality of our service. All the parts making up a hive are individually and thoroughly inspected.
We will replace any part that you are unhappy with free-of-charge. We do our best to ensure that you are a satisfied customer.
